Weirdest Maintenance Requests We’ve Ever Gotten (And How We Handled Them)

As property managers, we’ve just about seen it all, from squirrels in attics to toilets that “flush themselves.” At Grant & Main, we’ve built a reputation for reliable, professional Detroit property management, and yes, part of that means answering some truly unexpected calls.

Here’s a lighthearted peek behind the scenes at some of the weirdest maintenance requests we’ve received, and how our team handled them like pros.

“The Lights Flicker Every Time My Cat Jumps”

Turns out, the issue wasn’t electrical, it was a loosely mounted lamp plugged into a faulty outlet. Our electrician secured it, replaced the outlet, and confirmed all was safe.

“There’s a Ghost in the Fridge”

A tenant insisted their fridge made “paranormal noises at 2 a.m.” It turned out to be a failing compressor. We replaced it fast—no ghostbusting required.

“There’s a Bird Nest in My Oven Vent”

Yes, a robin had made its way into the kitchen exhaust system. We safely removed the nest (after the babies flew out) and installed a vent guard to keep it from happening again.
