Weirdest Maintenance Requests We’ve Ever Gotten (And How We Handled Them)
As property managers, we’ve just about seen it all, from squirrels in attics to toilets that “flush themselves.” At Grant & Main, we’ve built a reputation for reliable, professional Detroit property management, and yes, part of that means answering some truly unexpected calls.
Here’s a lighthearted peek behind the scenes at some of the weirdest maintenance requests we’ve received, and how our team handled them like pros.
“The Lights Flicker Every Time My Cat Jumps”
Turns out, the issue wasn’t electrical, it was a loosely mounted lamp plugged into a faulty outlet. Our electrician secured it, replaced the outlet, and confirmed all was safe.
Another reason Grant & Main offers preventive maintenance and regular property walkthroughs as part of our Detroit property management packages.
“There’s a Ghost in the Fridge”
A tenant insisted their fridge made “paranormal noises at 2 a.m.” It turned out to be a failing compressor. We replaced it fast—no ghostbusting required.
“There’s a Bird Nest in My Oven Vent”
Yes, a robin had made its way into the kitchen exhaust system. We safely removed the nest (after the babies flew out) and installed a vent guard to keep it from happening again.
At Grant & Main, wildlife management and vendor coordination are part of our comprehensive Detroit property management services.
“My Bathtub Is Singing”
This strange sound was traced to air in the plumbing line. After a quick visit from our plumbing contractor, the singing stopped, and so did the 3 a.m. wake-up calls.
“There’s a Bubble Growing in My Ceiling”
This one was serious, a slow leak from the unit above had created a soft spot in the drywall. Because of our 24/7 emergency line, our team was on it within hours, preventing thousands in potential water damage.
Managing property isn’t always glamorous, but it’s never boring. At Grant & Main, we take even the strangest requests seriously. Our job is to protect your asset while keeping tenants safe and satisfied, and our responsive Detroit property management team does exactly that, no matter how weird it gets.
